Join the Fourth Annual Conservation Celebration, a virtual event to support the Central Arizona Conservation Alliance (CAZCA) an initiative of Desert Botanical Garden. Funds raised through the Conservation Celebration benefit the collaborative work of CAZCA to conserve, restore and promote the distinctive character of the Sonoran Desert.
This year’s keynote speak is Gary Nabhan, an ecologist, ethnobotanist and author.
Gary Nabhan is known for his pioneering research in agricultural ecology and ethnobotany, as well as his literary works. He formerly served as Desert Botanical Garden’s director of conservation, research and collections, and co-founded the innovative Native Seeds/SEARCH in 1982, which continues to connect people with the native plants of the Southwest. In 1990, Gary received a MacArthur Award, recognizing his contributions to conservation of the genetic and cultural heritage of the Southwest region. At this year’s Conservation Celebration, he will discuss his latest book—”The Nature of Desert Nature.”
Each year, Desert Botanical Garden celebrates achievement and innovation in biodiversity conservation by recognizing an individual, organization or corporation with the Award for Excellence in Conservation, and the winner will honored at the Conservation Celebration.
Harold Dorenbecher is this year’s event chair and the program is emceed by Tammy McLeod.
