Autumn leaves on the ground and Thanksgiving table scraps in the trash or the compost bin. The 40 percent of food grown (& much of it purchased) that ends up wasted is a crime against humanity & against the rest of hundreds of thousands of species that get cut out of the food chain because of all the sunshine we usurp to grow that food.
The yard litter that is put in bags and hauled off to landfill could feed all kinds of invertebrates & fungi as well we need economic metrics that move us from thinking about what we PRODUCE (without telling us at whose expense) to how much we RECYCLE (to whose benefit).
The next revolution will truly be one of BLESSED FERMENT in the soil & in our lives. We must give up thinking that we should exclusively support the .0001 percent of human cells in our body for the rest of the organisms that live on and in us if we let them.
The micobiome shall inherit the earth. The least shall be first!
