Last night, at a City of Gastronomy celebration dinner, Hopi Elder & long time friend Vernon Masayesva made a simple request before any of us had taken bites out of the colorful meal prepared by Chef Janos Wilder:
“Take a bit of the food on your plate & set it to the side, on the edge, to remember the many other lives that brought you this food: rain clouds, spring waters, soil, plants, animals & other peoples. Remember each time you eat that we need to give back to them, to restore harmony in our relationships with them.”
