Restore the land requires humanity in the highest and most complete sense

Gary-Paul-Nabhan-1-85x85It warmed my heart to hear Wendell Berry proclaim to the hundreds assembled at the Prairie Festival, “To restore the land requires humanity in the highest and most complete sense [of that word]… And so, agrarianism has arisen out of our wish for a home-land, a home place [where we exercise] the freedom and independence of using that place through good husbandry, with neighborliness, loyalty to family and community [in ways that lead to] the coherence of a local economy. The criterion for success [of such restoration] is a balance between plants, animals and people.”
