At the Glendale Outdoor Leadership School (GOLS) in Glendale South Carolina, Wofford College professor and nature writer John Lane is restoring historic buildings, riparian habitat and rural gardening traditions all at once.
He is also making a safe place for cross-cultural “long term ecological reflections” among Cherokee, African-American and Anglo-American communities in the Carolinas.
His wonderful staff also teaches children “to think like a river” and plant their own “three sisters gardens.”
We need ten thousand more local heroes like John Lane in every place where the people and land historically strayed from being one and the same.
